Future Continuous Tense

FUTURE  CONTINUOUS TENSE

 

                                  Singular number               plural number

First person             I will be coming              we will be coming

Second person       you will be coming         you will be coming     

Third person           she will be coming         they will be coming

 

USES:

The future continuous tense is used to express an action that will be in progress at a given time in future or in the normal course.

Example:

We will be playing from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

They’ll be coming to visit us next week.

She will be taking an exam at 2 p.m. tomorrow, so  don’t call her then.

I will be waiting for you when you arrive  tonight.

He will be watching TV, and she will be cooking dinner.

While she cooks dinner, he will be watching TV

When I enter the class, the teacher will be teaching, some students will be taking notes, and my best friend will be trying to stay awake.

 

We use the Future Continuous Tense to talk about actions which will be in progress

at a time in the future.

Examples:

I suppose it will he raining when we start.

This time tomorrow I will be sitting on the beach in Singapore.

“Can I see you at 5 o'clock?” – “Please don t come then I will be watching the tennis

match on TV.

 

We also use this tense to talk about actions in the future which are already planned

or which are expected to happen in the normal course of things.

Examples:

• I will be staying here till Sunday.

• He will be meeting us next week.

• The postman will be coming soon

 

We use be to + .base form to talk about official plans and arrangements.

Examples:

The Prime Minister is to visit Germany next week.

The conference is to discuss “Global warming”.

 

Be to is used in a formal style, often in news reports Be is usually left out in headlines,

Example:

Prime Minister to visit Germany.
